Los Angeles hit-and-runs have killed too many dogs

This week, a tragedy unfolded in Sherman Oaks. A driver in a 2009 Maserati hit an 80-year-old pedestrian walking his dog. Both the pedestrian and dog were killed.

The story shows that humans are not the only victims of hit-and-runs in Los Angeles. 2024 was an all-time high in animal road deaths, according to these statistics.

Many of the pedestrian accident cases I’ve handled have involved people walking their dogs. In some of these cases, the results have been tragic and the dogs have been killed. Unfortunately pets don’t really have a chance when they are struck by a speeding driver.

Remember in Los Angeles there are leash laws. It’s never a good idea to let your dog roam around off-leash, unless it’s in a designated dog park. There are several dog parks throughout our beautiful city.

Remember that carrying uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage can protect you in the event you are injured by a hit-and-run driver. If you have questions in this regard, feel free to reach out.
