Injuries on the sidewalk while visiting Los Angeles
Several times per year, my office receives a similar phone call. It goes something like this.
“I was visiting Los Angeles and went for a walk. While I was walking, I tripped and hit the pavement. In the process, I broke my wrist.”
Wrists. Arms. Elbows. Shoulders. Ankles. Hips. Pelvis. You name it, I’ve seen them all. Los Angeles sidewalks every year are responsible for an alarming number of serious orthopedic injuries in Los Angeles.
Imagine it. You come from another state to visit your grandchildren. You go for a jog, trip on a Los Angeles sidewalk, and break your elbow. You need emergency surgery to put your upper arm back together again.
You take your grandchildren to a Pico Boulevard restaurant to make memories. Instead, the memories you make are traumatic—falling on an uplifted and unlevel Los Angeles sidewalk and breaking your wrist in front of your grandchild.
These are all real cases that my office has handled. I usually get an increase in these types of calls in the summer months, as well as around Jewish holidays such as Passover or Succot.
I keep a folder on my phone of all the ridiculous looking Los Angeles sidewalks I have seen over the years. There are hundreds of photos in the folder.
The Los Angeles sidewalk situation is out of control. The City of Los Angeles knows that it has a serious sidewalk problem. The City always argues that it can’t keep track of its miles and miles of sidewalks. But even when citizens report dangerous sidewalks to the City, the City does nothing and argues that it does not have the funds to repair them.
I’ve discussed this issue thoroughly before. It’s something that truly bothers me. Repairing uplifted sidewalks is something that would prevent so many painful, often life-changing injuries.
If you or someone you know were injured on a Los Angeles sidewalk while visiting Los Angeles, feel free to give my office a call.
I’m ready to assist, 24/6.
