Los Angeles intersections described as “killing fields”

It seems like every day, major Los Angeles news outlets run a story about someone getting killed in a Los Angeles intersection.

Just this week, a suspected DUI driver ran a red light and killed a motorist at the intersection of 76th and Broadway. In this case, the DUI driver was arrested. Often, DUI drivers are not apprehended since Los Angeles sees thousands of unsolved hit-and-runs every year. Los Angeles County alone had over 18,000 DUI arrests in 2022.

Another expert is describing Los Angeles intersections as “killing fields.” According to this report, there were 200 red-light running deaths in 2023 alone.

The author of this article has a valid point. Why do we need to read sad news headlines in order for there to be serious change in Los Angeles? It is clear that the City’s ‘VisionZero’ plan has been a total failure.

I surmise that the increase in street takeovers, which we have discussed in the past, cannot help the speeding culture that is currently affecting our city.

No citizen should live in a city where major intersections are described as “killing fields.” The article is seriously thought-provoking and I agree with the premise that, day-to-day tasks like driving kids to school or going to the Grove or taking your grandchildren to get ice cream should not require risking your life.

Don’t you agree?
